Work hard. Play hard!

This project is open to any graduate student in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. While Digital Media Concentration students will receive preference, any student in our program who submits a strong essay will be considered.

It’s easy to apply for the SXTXState.com project:

  1. Application deadline – Sept. 30, 2018, at midnight.
  2. Find the SXTXState Application Form. Fill out the form as thoroughly as possible.
  3. Fill out your name and email address.
  4. Create your proposal. Explain why you want to attend SXSW and what you hope to accomplish. We are looking for proposals that demonstrate your creativity, passion and experience with digital media and how your attendance relates to your career objectives. Include any ideas you have for incorporation of multimedia, interaction and data, people you hope to see and meet and topics of general interest. The essay should be no longer than 500 words. You should work on the proposal in another program on your computer, then copy and paste into the Proposal box.
  5. Fill out the rest of the information on the form.
  6. Submit the form. Once you Submit it, you cannot return to it to make modifications. Pay careful attention to grammar, spelling and punctuation, because you will not be able to edit a submission once you choose Submit. Be sure you have filled out the form in full before submitting.

Your application will be evaluated by a team of judges from the SJMC Digital Media Faculty and could also be reviewed by alumni of the project and SXSW personnel.

Students will be able to register for the course for the Spring Semester, enrolling in SXTXState Project. This is a hybrid course, with most meetings prior to SXSW occurring online, through TRACS and Skype. Students will be creating online content and using social media to document the event and will do a presentation at the end of the Spring Semester.

Selected students will receive an Interactive Badge (valued at $825). Other events and perks may be announced later. Students will be need to cover other expenses associated with the event, like food, merchandise purchases and parking.
